Scholarship Club
Paying It Forward
We are established as a
501c3 tax-exempt non-profit
association where donors can sponsor “At-Risk"
youths through tax deductible donations. Those donations will afford the
“At-Risk" youths to attend classes and become a part of this enriching
experience. We are in the process of establishing a "PayPal" account to
make it easier to make tax deductible donations to assist in our mission.
This program is devoted to teaching "At-Risk" youths goal setting, confidence,
respect, and leadership through the study of Martial Arts. Your
sponsorship provides classes
to youths who would otherwise not be able to attend due to financial constraints.
This sponsorship
program permits us to share traditions and life skills with those that need it
the most and enhance or develop qualities that will help them to achieve further successes in
life.
In order for us to do that we need your help. Community involvement is key, but
we also enlist students’ families to become engaged with the student's in classes
and supporting their efforts. Many parents have joined in the classes as active
participants or assistants to the instructors. This has been a learning
experience for all involved. At our quarterly tests, parental support for our
students has been 100%. Each year we hold a Holiday Potluck after the December
testing that includes the students and their families as a celebration for the
students’ achievement over the year. We also have a Summer Picnic at the
conclusion of the Summer Camp Program.
Every "Sponsored Student" must complete an application, as would any other student.
The difference is that a "Sponsored Student" will not be charged a monthly fee
and depending upon the type or extent of sponsorship, they may also receive
additional benefits.
How do we determine who pays and who does not?
"Sponsored Students" are referred
from their schools, churches, or other students who feel that this person could
benefit from participation in the program. The Instructor and the Board review
the application to
determine acceptance. All students must also have
parental/guardian approval and support.
Students accepted into the program are required to:
-
Regularly
attend school
-
Maintain a 2.5 GPA in all classes
-
Stay out of trouble at home and in school
-
Attend 75%
of all martial art classes
Advancement in rank may only be achieved with signed permission form from
parent(s)/guardian(s) and teachers verifying their good behavior and
recommendation for promotion. Presentation of report
cards is mandatory to prove academic status. If a student does not meet the
standards, they are required to come to class and do their homework instead
of participate in class activities. Once proper documentation is provided as to
their meeting the requirements, they will then be permitted to return to class
activities. If interventions fail to influence their behaviors after 30 days and they fail to return to expected
behaviors, they will be dismissed from the program. There maybe occasions
where extenuating circumstances are involved and those will be taken into
account as individual case(s).
